ABOUT BHOOMI GOPORTAL PLATFORM

The importance of soil geospatial databases is well recognized in management and optimum utilization of soil resources and site-specific crop planning. In four decades journey of ICAR-NBSS&LUP generated voluminous information on several parameters of soil resources at various scales in the country and these have been scattered at various places in form of database, maps, research paper and reports. The dedicated BHOOMI Geoportal platform has been designed and developed to systematically process, organize and deploy the soil information through collating geo-referenced soil and allied resources databases. BHOOMI Geoportal platform provides a knowledge gateway to visualize, access, query soil data and disseminate the soil and allied resource information to the users.

BHOOMI Geoportal helps us to eliminate redundancies and duplication of efforts, and enforcing consistency, standards, and sharable protocols as envisaged under the National Geospatial Policy to build a cross-domain soil knowledge base for effective utilization of limited soil resources of the country. The BHOOMI Geoportal platform enables the users to visualize various thematic services and analytics on soil resources of the country at various scales.

Further, the National Geospatial Policy - 2022 notified in the Gazette of India designated the ‘Department of Agricultural Research and Education' (DARE) as a Nodal Department and its unit ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey & Land Use Planning (ICAR_NBSS&LUP), Nagpur as a nodal organisation for Geospatial Data Theme ‘Soil’. Under NGP, ICAR-NBSS&LUP is working with various ICAR and SAU’s in developing a ‘Unified Geospatial Interface’ for soil in assimilation, maintenance and dissemination of soil resource-based services and information to the planners/policy makers/users.
